a share consolidation is in itself neither good not bad. It doesn't not dilute anything as the shares on issue decrease and thus each share represents a bigger percentage of the company at the exact consolidation rate.

the issue why some view consolidation is bad is it is often done by penny dreadful stocks who have explore find nothing, raise more money through shares, explore find nothing etc. They consolidate because the shares on issue became a ridiculous number over time

then we have consolidations where are done to allow for institutional trading, this is a totally different reason and often works out positively ( assuming the stock is not out of favour)
