    You've missed my point about the self checkout machines.
    They are taking peoples jobs!


    If that was a human standing there you would get served faster, there would be 'no theft', nor would there be any fiddling of prices, (e.g. paying for cheap tomatoes, when they have bought vine ripened ones).

    These machines are REPLACING people.

    Reverting to humans doing the checkouts would most likely be cheaper as well.

    1 overseer on machines = 1 FULL TIME checkout chick.
    (1 FULL TIME checkout chick = 2 casual checkout chicks).
    Theft = 2 casual checkout chicks, or more.
    Machine servicing, repairs = 1 casual checkout chick.
    That would give you 5 casuals for the busy periods.
    Also, there are generally 2 or more supervisors standing around doing stuff all, that should be on a register helping.
    They do when I go shopping.
