I dont believe that Google have the capability themselves to do this on their own. The very fact that they are starting to utilise this tool however is to my mind encouraging. They clearly see there is a market for this type of time-lapse imagery. To offer it as an ongoing and effective service they would need to engage with a small Aussie company that are excelling in this type of work :). While I am not suggesting that they are intending to buy Nearmap - I do think it adds to the arguement that Nearmap is well and truly on their radar for future working arrangements / takeover or similar. Just my thoughts...
