LME prices end steadily January 9, 2006
London Metal Exchange (LME) prices ended steadily on Friday, recouping earlier losses as a weaker dollar spurred renewed buying and short covering, dealers said.
Three-months futures closed $9 higher at $4,514 a tonne, against a record high of $4,576 on Wednesday.
Copper was volatile on Friday, trading between $4,425 and $4,520 in thin, edgy trade.
LME stocks rose 625 tonnes on Friday to 97,675 tonnes - their highest since October 2004 after a July low of 25,525 tonnes - but were still equivalent to just two days of world consumption.
Silver surged to $9.09/9.12 an ounce from $8.79/8.82 previously.
