Pascoe gambling on Aristocrat

Aristocrat director John Pascoe has placed himself firmly in the Des Randall camp of true believers.

As most are sceptical about Randall's ability to turn the pokie maker around, Pascoe has put some hurt money on the table or averaged down, depending which way you see it.

The former George Westons chairman has stumped up $285,000 in the past week to buy 150,000 shares.

Let's hope he does a little better than his last effort with Aristocrat stock.

Last May Pascoe paid about $5.30 a share for 10,000 shares in the pokie maker - a trade that has lost him a little over $30,000 so far. Aristocrat shares closed at $1.93 yesterday.

But this latest purchase may be as much about politics as Pascoe making a buck. Now that current chairman John Ducker is coming under pressure from institutions and major shareholders the Ainsworth family, perhaps Pascoe sees an opportunity.

Having given up the chair at dotcoms CommSecure and Objective, the Phillips Fox lawyer has chairmanships of only Sealcorp and Centrelink to keep him occupied.
