Are you American? Canadian? Just wondering. If you're an Oz - then the following excerpt from you is the first example I've seen of an Oz using the American term "off of":
"It appears to be reacting off of the trend line drawn across the Oct 2013/Jan 2014 highs."
That's not a criticism. Just an observation.
My first degree had an English major with some units in linguistics - as a result I have an interest in language use, language changes and what the influences are. In case you're wondering, I did my first degree in Canada - in another era - where the use of "off of" was also ubiquitous. Sounded odd then to my Oz ear, and still does.
