The UK gets about one percent of its gas from Russia but some countries in Europe are heavily reliant on gas from Russia such as the Ukraine. The Crimea gets most of its gas from the Russia via the Ukraine. As I understand it the gas in Russia is a bit like fracking as there is no large single source and pockets have to be continually found to satisfy the demand. Negotiations are in progress to reduce the reliance on Russian gas of which can only be good news for unconventional gas.
