My understanding is that CFDs are contracts between brokers and their clients that are derivatives of the equity or shares. These would bypass a trading halt when closing as you say.

That means shorting with CFDs doesn't directly effect the price or movement of shares on the stock market unless the broker does actually short or naked short the equity to cover the CDF. In that case most likely only the broker has the problem closing.

CFDs are derivative contracts based on the daily movement of the shares on the open market but don't need to involve ownship the Equity themselves!

So I believe what would happen with a cease of trading is totally dependent on the terms of the Contract For Difference with the broker and as you say would be largely independent of the trading halt as far as the retail trader is concerned.

Its a different story if an actual short or naked short is involved I believe. Then there would be the issues that I originally commented about.
