What happens in Afghanistan if you are caught stealing? Is it a finger or a hand that you lose?
Does that mean that any person from that part of the world caught stealing in Australia is expecting to lose their hand or finger, or would they prefer a suspended sentence, a good behaviour bond or a warning from the police?
Imagine a meter maid from the Gold Coast walking down the main streat of Kabul in her two piece bikini, cow girl hat on and getting arrested as a result.
Would the judge rule "you are free my dear, due to cultural differences, don't do it again"?
The answer is no, sadly there would probably be a few stones involved.
