You might be trying too hard. "Emptying the mind" is pretty difficult. It's a bit like someone saying to you "don't think about oranges". All you can then see in your mind is a damn orange.

What some people find more productive is simple mindfulness where you just observe your thoughts rather as though you were an outsider looking in at your mind. Let the thoughts just flow through and move on.

We usually think of meditation as occurring while sitting in one place. What can be more helpful, especially if you're a restless sort of person or are feeling tense, is to engage in some repetitive physical activity. Walking or jogging for an hour or more will usually release endorphins which provide a calming, relaxing effect.

Everyone will be different in what works for them.
I remember many years ago having a go at the transcendental meditation stuff when it was all the rage because the Beatles were into it. Hopeless for me, I'm too restless.
But the rhythm of walking, just letting the thoughts pass through the mind with no attempt to focus on anything or worry at an anxiety has been a lifesaver for me.

Hope you find something that's right for you.
