slippin -
I can name FOUR members in my family who do NOT get penalty rates for part-time work. Two of them in high ranking contract administerial project positions, connected with State Government initiatives, or tertiary education - (one working with refugees). Two doing very demanding, highly responsible work. For comparative "peanuts" Hourly rates. NO overtime or penalty rates. Often working extra hours - unpaid. NO gaurantee of ongoing work, at end of contract.
Yet they do this willingly, and enthusiastically.
Other two part-time students, waiting in restaurants, weekend nights, no penalty rates there either. Reliant on tips, for anything extra.
Whilst I agree there should be some penalty rates for hard work - long unsociable hours (say overnight, long haul driving, or similar) - times are extremely tough - thanks to the past six years of Labor's mismanagement - employers have to get some help to maintain the businesses and the jobs they can provide - at least some areas of penalty rates may need to be looked at least, for possible pruning down to more realistic levels. Better than unemployment.
Lots of fleuro vests leaning on shovels - getting paid heaps - for doing not much. Weekends, etc. Courtesy of their Unions. Who don't give a damn about bosses.
You make the sweeping statement - generalising - about the WA election -
"They couldn't vote for Tony because he's shown that he isn't trustworthy" - can you tell me in which particular areas, as you claim, (or they do) he isn't "trustworthy"?
What then, alternately, do they claim that Rudd, Gillard and all the Labor crew, Bob Brown and his loony Greens - (his Greens' "marriage" with Gillard- what a farce), Windsor and Oakeshott and their machinations re. putting Gillard in power, Thomson and Slipper and Obeid were all, or most, at all times absolutely squeaky clean in intent? If you believe that - you believe anything.
Abbott's up in Japan, China, etc now - working his backside off - to repair past damages wrought by (and James Packer said it) Mr. Rudd, in the past. Also with Indonesia and India.
Abbott's agreement up in Japan classed by any as Australia's greatest diplomatic triumph in decades! Compare him - and his long years of experience in politics, to this humbug of Palmer's - always out to block, stall, and destroy. Over some personal spitefulness. Only he understands.
So, in the light of all the allegations, pending court cases, and already proven wrongdoings of the Labor brigade, the complete pig-headed dopiness of the Greens, the big spending of Palmer (who's only, I allege) out for himself - sprouter of slogans and cliches and personal venoms - you have the gall to repeat the claim of some mates - that "Abbott is not trustworthy?"
As the instigator of this thread - I see it's gone right off the original subject. But I never cease to be amazed at the utter, inexplicable stupidity of some voters, sucked in by the huge Palmer spend-a-thon - his chest beating rubbish.
Heaven help Australia. If, come July 1, he and his silly minions, inept, inexperienced newbies, from very minor little parties, very low votes, are somehow then running the place. Calling the shots. This is not just unfair and unjust, it's totally frightening!
I say again - gee - THANKS WA - and what WERE you thinking?
Jamie Packer, this am, absolutely glowing in his admiration of what Abbott has successfully achieved, for ALL of us, up in Japan.
