Cdchi1 is right. Michael Slifirski, research analyst at Credit Suisse, is probably the best-informed graphite analyst in the country. And there are a couple of lines in the latest CS report (of which Slifirski was lead author) which will send cold shivers down the spines of some graphite prospectors.

The main thing: While agreeing that SYR may be able to get $1200 to $1500 per tonne for some sections of the market, CS have reduced their estimate of the overall average graphite price to $800 per tonne. At that price, SYR, with a super-large, rich deposit enabling FOB costs of $200 per tonne or thereabouts, can make pots of money. Market growth, and market share, look set to rise rapidly.

But small, lower-grade deposits may face a grim future.

    Cheers, Prime1
