couldnt help notice the headline/original post of this thread and a report i saw a few days ago:
Philippines: Agusan del Norte: Attack on foreign mining company in Tubay underlines persistent threat from militant activity
An attack by around 100 members of the leftist guerrilla New People's Army (NPA) – the armed wing of the Communist Party of Philippines (CPP) – on a foreign-owned mining company in the town of Tubay (Agusan del Norte province, Mindanao) early on 5 April illustrates the risks posed by continuing militant activity, even outside HIGH travel risk areas. Reports indicate that NPA rebels stormed the company premises, disarmed the guards and set several vehicles and buildings alight. The authorities claim that the rebels were heavily armed and the security forces have begun operations to apprehend the perpetrators.
Tubay is not that far away...
