REL: 0946 HRS The New Zealand Refining Company Limited
GENERAL: NZR: Operational update Refining NZ planned maintenance shutdown
The planned maintenance shutdown of the hydrocracker and related units which
Refining NZ expected to complete this week has been extended for a further
ten days due to the failure of a key compressor unit during the hydrocracker
start-up.
Starting the hydrocracker has been put on hold while Refining NZ replaces a
failed component of the compressor with a back-up. Refining NZ estimates
that the replacement process will be completed and the hydrocracker back in
production towards the end of next week.
The refinery is continuing to manufacture fuel products through the use of
processing units that are not part of the shutdown and other processing units
that have completed the planned maintenance. This is enabling our customers
to manage country fuel stocks via a combination of products from Marsden
Point and scheduled imports. We are working closely with our customers on
supply planning and monitoring stock levels, particularly in Auckland where
demand is greatest, and will continue to do so for the duration of the
shutdown.
Refining NZ estimates that the one-off financial impact from the extension to
the shutdown period from that which was originally planned will be to reduce
processing fee revenue by around US$10 -15 million. Refining NZ now expects
to process 40.5 million barrels for the year, which is down from the 41.5
million barrels originally planned for 2014.
