Tell me something, zzedzz ... Do you have any sort of scientific or technical background? Your shallow and unthinking posts would suggest otherwise. Do you understand the difference between precision & accuracy?

For a mining company to make the decision to place a certain truckload on a selected stockpile, they need to know the grade (& perhaps mineralogical composition) to a certain level of confidence. Hence they might use a fast & lowcost technique, such as a hand-held XRF.

Such a level of confidence might be suitable to make stockpile sorting decisions but not, I would think, provide sufficiently accurate data for, for instance, a sales agreement, or reporting formally to an outside (& public) body , like the ASX.

And as for using truck dumping data to determine something as important as process plant recovery rate ... you've got to be kidding. There is a lot more to it than that. Try asking a chemist or a metallurgist sometime what is involved in documenting a formal grade for several stockpiles of un-mixed inhomogeneous ore which is known to suffer from severe nugget mal-distribution and hence internal grade discontinuities.

And I do wish you wouldn't put words into my mouth. I have never said that CDU or its staff is incompetent as modern miners. (In fact my opinion is quite the opposite.)

And whether they "know the grade" or not depends on what precision & accuracy you expect them to "know the grade". I rather think they know the grade with sufficient accuracy to assign truckloads to stockpiles but, as yet, not well enough for formal reporting.

And yes, I think CDU is a mining company that is well organised. They are certainly organised well enough to carry out the required analyses to a precision & accuracy that matches the task at hand.
