[invited] While optical spectral analysis has shown great promise in industrial and agricultural applications, the cost, size, and fragility of spectrometer instruments have hindered widespread application of the technology. MEMS microspectrometers offer great hope for low-cost, lightweight, robust, spectrometers, paving the way for pervasive use of infrared spectroscopy in agriculture. Over the last 15 years, the microelectronics research group has developed a novel MEMS based micro spectrometer. This talk will examine the spectrometer technologies developed at the microelectronics research group, including the most recent developments that have extended the operational wavelength range into the near infrared and visible wavelengths.
