Not so imo.
I am a professional involved in related fields and have a decent understanding of surface, subsurface and groundwater conditions, including contamination.
I am not aware that a decade of CSG extraction in Qld has posioned groundwater damaged agricuture. If so then the Queenslanders and the Qld government are asleep at the wheel.
NSW has even greater environmental regulations than the more than 300 that already govern the CSG industry in Qld.
I think the Bentley blockaders are profoundly misled by a a small number of radical greens thoughout Australia that need headlining enviro issues to justifiy a greens presence in Australian politics. It matters nought whether they are real, imaginery, hallucinated or confected ... it matters only that the issues are headlining and any means is justified.
In this way these radical greens and thence the greens movement play to community and individual fears ... its quite shameless manipulation imo.
As for "obsolete fossil fuels", you do realise don't you that success in crippling cleaner burning lower ghg emitting CSG production in NSW leads to increased use and longer dependence on coal? And that renewables simply cannot anytime soon support agricultural production, food distribution by heavy road, rail, sea and air at a level to support even the current global population.
Again, imo, the right way to think is renewables baseload and gas peaking powergen, leaving oil for the heavy transport modes mentioned above ... coal may indeed be largely obsolete if the renewables/gas duo can be perfected.
The blockaders at Bentley are fighting entirely the wrong battle and they have been led there by modern day ambitious generals.
