Buy early to reap the gains of Europe’s QE bounce

Past experience suggests that quantitative easing in Europe could have a positive impact on equity markets there, but investors who don’t act fast enough may be shortchanged on any of the gains realized from the additional monetary stimulus.

“Japanese QE and the Fed’s QE2 program suggest that European stocks could rally quite significantly in coming months — and that the time to buy is before, not after, QE is announced,” said Jeremy Hale, global macro strategist at Citigroup Global Markets, in a note to clients.

It is widely speculated that the European Central Bank will introduce quantitative easing sometime later this year in order to combat the eurozone’s still-sluggish recovery, strong euro and deflationary pressures.
