as benbradley mentioned, exercise seems to have solved his back problem - the same as for watso. watso is an avid cyclist because it was cycling which solved his back problem.
when a person has a crook back, then the person tends to avoid any activity which puts the remotest strain on the back - leading to atrophy of the muscles which support the back.
when watso started to cycle, the benefit was almost immediate, as watso could stand upright for increasingly longer periods of time.
off course, there are different factors which affect back pain - but exercise (eg cycling - which is low impact) should be tested as an option
