re: cochrane report = good for biota the Cochrane Collaboration is one of the most highly respected sources of unbiased medical evidence information. It does not publish for media, it's studies are produced for the scientific community. The whole thing was just a media beat-up. The media is in the business of selling controversy, not in examining and carefully weighing evidence. What the Cochrane review says is quite true. We do not have evidence current antivirals at current levels of supply are going to be effective to stop a pandemic. I tend to agree. Treatment with any antiviral needs to be almost immediate. Influenza viruses can be incubating in someone without symptoms for a week. Respiratorily spread pandemic influenza may circle the globe before we are even aware anything is happening. I think our only hope is if the pandemic does not occur until we have enough antivirals for mass prophylaxis of perhaps 60-80 percent of the population. I don't think we'll have enough until LANI is produced. Then we may be able to supply enough for really massive prophylaxis.
Do you see that if you look at the conclusions of this report that it actually means INCREDIBLE upside to Biota? We need several BILLIONS of doses and only Biota produced LANI can be produced economically in these doses?
