I did a quick google, I didnt find exactly what I remembered but ichneumon wasps seem similar. I can only imagine them getting things right, from the beginning ie they didnt evolve there specialised form of providing for their offspring. A wasp appeared/was born in the world one day long ago went looking for a caterpillar recognised the one knew where to bite it, layed its eggs, and they hatched and had the instinct not to kill the host. Oh and there had to be at least a pair of the same wasp born in the same area and same time to get the species rolling. Mutation and natural selection?
