He said he was "led to believe". A belief is an opinion, not a fact, last I heard.
Have you actually been to China recently? I have. I also speak to Chinese suppliers on a daily basis. It's commonly known that the growth is fake. They joke about it. If they don't have an order to fill, they will build a new city, regardless of the fact nobody actually lives in it.
Secondly, any intelligent person studying economic news since 2008 has a strong suspicion that the official numbers from many countries are fudged.
