copper advances to a record Advances to a Record After U.S. Construction Expands

Copper rose to a record in London after a report showed U.S. construction spending increased in December, indicating expanding demand for the metal.
Copper for delivery in three months on the London Metal Exchange rose as much as $48, or 1 percent, to $4,912 a metric ton. The contract was at $4,905 a ton as of 7:42 a.m. in London, taking its gains this year to 12 percent.
Spending on construction in December rose 1 percent, the most in three months, the Commerce Department said yesterday.
