Yes students do come to teachers with problems. However when I taught you would never be alone with a student ie in an office with the door shut.
It is a judgement call but for anything serious you would refer them to the School Psychologist who has formal qualifications in one on one counselling.
To repeat my question. What formal qualifications in counselling do Chaplins have?
