Well, if he did spend his own money, good on him for having the courage of his convictions. I'm pretty sure the ABC news report I heard about the result included an order in his favour for costs.
Why would you call him an idiot? He is someone who doesn't want his child taught religion in what is supposed to be a secular school. People who want their children taught about religion should do it themselves or take themselves off to the church of their choice. No place for it in schools.
