Yesterday the SMH and AFR ran similar articles with the above chart to distinguish the returns on investment into property or shares in the past 10 and 20 years. Nobody could dispute property won hands down in the last 20 years, but I was very interested to see the results for the past 10 years since the GFC absolutely cleaned up many investors exposed to shares.
Interestingly, the articles referred to the past 20 years of property as a "generational surge", and did not take into account fully franked dividends offered by many of the blue chips.
Even after the best year in a long time for residential property .... hardly made an impact on the dominance of shares.
