Agree Gareth, HbA1C is used to look at the 'average' level of blood glucose a diabetic has achieved over the preceding three months or so. Although newer protocols allow for its use in diagnosing diabetes too, it really isn't a time critical or emergency test, beyond it being used in a GP or specialist clinic occasionally I don't see its value at POC. After all any diabetic needing their HbA1C checked would also require comprehensive renal function, lipid levels and other bloods intermittently over a longer time frame that would need a central lab (at this stage) also.
Happy to be enlightened, but that's my spin on things.
