Better ways in terms of environmental effects yes. I don't think they are better in economic terms, in fact I think the water solutions for the Qld CSG projects are incredibly expensive.

You're right that water production declines over time across a project, but you still need to have the capacity to handle it its peak, which can be expensive. If STX can do a fairly small project (to fulfil their existing contracts and maybe a bit extra) then they may be able to dispose of the water in evaporation ponds, or pipe it to central facility and re-inject it somewhere.

If the coals are wet but fully saturated with gas then they shouldn't take too long to start flowing gas once dewatering starts. Particularly if the fracs have been as effective as they seem to have been. STX have said they are fully saturated and I do fully take their word for it on that.
