spirit and soul are just human constructs to help us, in our day to to day interactions, personify natural phenomena so we can elevate our own importance in the ecosystem and more importantly, deal with the emotionally crushing (for some people) understanding of our own mortality.

if they were real we would be able to measure them, just like we can measure the tiniest particles that actually make up the universe, and failing that we would at least be able to measure the effects. As Descartes understood, your feeling and absolute knowings are not admissible as evidence as they are flawed - what you perceive is filtered by what you believe - hence the pilgrim sees images of their own deity in everyday objects, not in fact, a god they have never heard of, or a competing god.

so regardless of how much you believe, or feel in your bones that their must be some other force, there isn't, or if there is, then the same evolutionary process that link us the earliest single cell organism, must also impart souls to all other creatures given our similarity to other creatures, or the mirror image of genes that are found in mice for example.

in that case, your heaven is full of dinosaurs, and I don't want to go.
