If you use ComSec by any chance, click on UOS, then go to Company Research > Charts.
You'll see a graph that shows the "10 year total return", both starting at $10k.
From this graph the rough figures are (with dividends reinvested I believe):
UOS investment after 10 years: 160k
Sector investment after 10 years: 30k
UOS Annual return: 31.95%
Sector Annual return: 7.18% return

I haven't verified ComSec's calcs, but one can only assume they're correct.
I know that these figures migth also indicate an over-valued company, but given it's trading below book value, I doubt that very much...
Obviously you'd need to do more research as there could be risks that aren't immediately apparent, but it's a nice fact to know.

- 10k base
- y^10 = rate of growth (over 10 years)
- 160k = final outcome
10k * y^10 = 160
y^10 = 160
y = 160 ^ (1/10)
y = 1.3195
hence, 31.95% growth
