Pharaoh's stubborn refusal to submit to Jehovah's sovereignty was evident right from the start.
(Exodus 5:2) But Phar′aoh said: “Who is Jehovah, that I should obey his voice to send Israel away? I do not know Jehovah at all, and what is more, I will not send Israel away.”
Surely he must have known the literal name of the God of the Hebrews that had been in their midst two hundred and fifteen years.
This set the scene for a confrontation that could only end one way. Jehovah used the situation to teach aspects of His personality that may otherwise have remained unknown.
(Exodus 9:12) But Jehovah allowed Phar′aoh’s heart to become obstinate, and he did not listen to them, just as Jehovah had told Moses.
(Exodus 9:16) But for this very reason I have kept you in existence: to show you my power and to have my name declared in all the earth.
It was absolutely imperative that the 10 plagues be unequivocally miraculous, supernatural, for them to carry the impact God meant for them to carry. Otherwise, there would not have been any clear-cut issue and the plagues would not have served to magnify Jehovah’s name.
This was highlighted by what was said of the 10th plague.
(Exodus 12:12) For I will pass through the land of Egypt on this night and strike every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from man to beast; and I will execute judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am Jehovah.
The very same principle applies as to why Satan has not yet been eliminated. His stubborn opposition to Jehovah's sovereignty will lead to what Jesus taught his disciples to pray:
(Matthew 6:9) “You must pray, then, this way: “‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.
