Wireline logs tells them whether they have encountered oil or gas or just water inthe reservoir. And if oil then over what gross interval (so could be some hundreds of meters) and they often report the net interval as well (reservoirs are not uniform and some will have HC's and other parts won't). Oil quality can be determined by taking samples.

The size of the reservoir will still be an estimate until they do a series of step out wells in future to determine the area of oil reservoir.

I am assuming they can also make measuremnts on reservoir quality as in porosity but that does not equal an actual flow test so is only indicative.

We are of course getting ahead of ourselves but then its good to be prepared for different scenarios as in OIL, or some oil, or gas, or water!
