A lot of worries about US competitors in natural gas industry. I dont believe US will be a huge threat
In general terms, given the US gas is priced between $4 and $4.50 per mmBtu.
It has to sell gas at above $9/mmBtu in Europe or above $10.65/ mmBtu in Asia to be profitable.
In July, 2014, Japan natural gas market is priced at $10.925 per mBtu and in Britain, the price is $6.25/mmBtu.
Despite all the talk about outrageous labor cost in Australia, I still believe due to the earlier start of Australia LNG industry and its geographic proximity to Asia (the biggest buyer of gas), the Aus gas industry would still grow. One concern is how to improve productivity of Australia workers to be more competitive.
Finally, my final prediction: The US gas price will gradually increase, while the price in Asia and Europe drops, due to new supplies. Australia gas industry should really compete against time.
