Seeing is believing: Mirage-2 confirmed as producer

    Tuesday, February 14, 2006

THE Mirage joint venture expects to ramp up production at the PEL 115 oil field from 400 to 1000 barrels per day, upon receiving positive results at the Mirage-2 appraisal well, which will now be completed for production.

Partners Victoria Petroleum and Impress Ventures said two cores were cut in the objective Murta Formation, which had oil indications from a depth of 1322 metres to 1337 metres. They said the best reservoir was indicated from 1322 metres to 1328.5 metres.

The well will be completed for production from the Murta reservoir, after drilling reaches a total depth of 1620 metres.

VicPet managing director, John Kopcheff, said based on these initial results, Mirage-2 has similar oil saturations to those in the currently producing Mirage-1 well, 580 metres south.

He said the significance of these oil shows would be further evaluated by wire line logs at total depth and subsequent core analysis.

Impress managing director Douglas Jendry said the success at Mirage-2 had boosted expectations the field would increase in production from 400 barrels of oil per day to a target 1000 barrels of oil per day by mid 2006.

"The success at Mirage 2 confirms our mapping and attribute work and we now look forward to the Mirage 3 and 4 having similar characteristics," Jendry said.

"It now looks as if we are well on our way to getting the Mirage field up to a total 1000 barrels of oil per day after the drilling of the three appraisal wells."

The Mirage-2 well was the first of a three well development program at the field. It will also test secondary targets in the McKinlay, Namur and Hutton sandstones.

Participants and their interests in the Mirage and Ventura Oil Fields and PEL 115 are: Victoria Petroleum NL (operator and 40%), Impress Ventures Ltd (27.5%), Roma Petroleum NL (20%) and Entek Energy Ltd (12.5%)
