And that's the beauty of moving away from coal and oil . We can still use those resources in products that we can recycle and the bonus is that the reserves we have left will be there for such ' emergencies '.

Not much good to us if the asteroid hits just after we've used it all .

Funny indeed!

To cover the other alarmist disaster scenario: ice ages typically only involve 1-2% change in incident solar radiation, while the efficiency of solar panels improves substantially in the cold. So an ice age would probably slightly *improve* solar PV output on the whole.
