Mongy. really? You would think BHP, Vale, Anglo, RIO and all the other "big boys" would have the best Managers on the planet.

BHP writes off $3.3bil off its shale oil acquisition.

BHP writes off $3.7bil on its Raventhorpe nickel project and eventually sells it for $376mil

RIO writes off $14.4bil off its coal project in Mozambique (Riversdale Mining). To make matters worse they are about to sell it to an Indian interest for a princely sum of $50mil. (failed to anticipate issues around transporting their commodity, such as the amount of dredging the river required, as the plan was to barge it down the river, then the Government became opposed to that idea and now a ridiculously expensive rail line will be needed)

RIO writes off $7.9bil in 2009 and then a further $8.9bil in 2012 on its Alcan acquisition

Anglo writes off $4bil off its Minas iron ore project (failed to anticipate issues around transporting their commodity)

Cliffs Resources writes off $2bil on iron ore projects

Vale writes off $4.7bil to its nickel and aluminum projects

France BG write off $4bil on its shale oil acquisitions

Barrick write offs approx $13bil on gold projects

    Newcrest write off $6bil

    Kincross write off $3.1bil

AngloGold Ashanti write off $2.6 bil

    Canada's Goldcorp write off $2bil

    Newmont write off $1.6bil

Arcelormittal writes off $4.3bil on its steel making

So shit does happen when you are trying to pick the future, with all good intent they would have been wiser in shutting HMS plant down as soon as the SXEW kicked in. Then any production that still came from the old HMS plant would be viewed as a positive bonus.
