Even if you are not tail gating, you have less vision. Since you can't see the traffic in the distance. Thus you run more of a risk if you are a 4wd, since people do tailgate. I would prefer not to get hit from behind even if I was right and not at fault, zero collisions is the best.
The reason I say this is that 4wd drivers think they are "safer", but if you are more likely to be hit are you?
