Is true that BCP could have the Canadians and Macquarie buying for them but if I had to bet I would put them as arbitrager's just making a quick 8-10% profit although difficult to know for sure. I think you should thoroughly look into the Canadians previous business activities to give yourself some comfortable assessment especially considering you are a top 20 and have a lot at stake.
The fact hat BCP are making phone calls does indicate they are very nervous and so they should be with such a weak offer.
