AFTER almost 40 years of false starts, the massive bauxite deposit that has long promised to turn the impoverished Cape York indigenous community of Aurukun into a boom town has again been revived for development. Just months after shelving bids for the state-owned lease, the Queensland government will today announce it has appointed resource giant Glencore as the “preferred proponent’’ to mine the estimated $20 billion lode.
