I'm just a peasant, but if I were running a large pharma and wanted to corner the herpes market, I would offer 1 or 2 billion in cash and royalties on sales. The cash would be a token of faith and be used by ahz to continue research, but more importantly lock them into contract before someone else. Good timing is needed, the later they leave the deal, the more assurance of successful trials, but other punters will be sniffing around and they could miss out.
