Last Friday, the Business Standard, gave an update on the prices of almonds in the Indian capital:

Almond gurbandi and girdhi prices rose up to Rs 300 per 40 kg in the national capital today largely on the back of increased buying by retailers and stockists amid low stocks following fall in supplies from overseas markets.

Almond gurbandi and girdhi prices increased upto Rs 300 to conclude at Rs 8,200-8,500 and Rs 4,800-5,000 per 40 kg, respectively.

Marketmen said fresh buying by retailers and stockists against fall in supplies from overseas markets, mainly pushed up almond prices on the dry fruit market here.

Following are today's quotations (per 40 kg):

Almond (California) Rs 19,400, Almond (Gurbandi-new) Rs 8,200-8,500; Almond (Girdhi) Rs 4,800-5,000; Abjosh Afghani Rs 8,000-24,000.

On 8/8/14, the same website reported that the Californian almond price was Rs 18,400 per 40 kg.

So it would seem that in New Delhi the price of Californian almonds has risen by about 5% within the space of a month.

This possibly suggests that the worsening drought in California is resulting in some more supply constraints.
