Wouldn't it be great (in the case of common diseases like influenza) for there to be FDA funded trials that multiple companies could apply to participate in. So the FDA could for example set say, annual or bi-annual dates for global flu trials. The trials would be partly funded by the FDA and also partly funded by those participating.
This would eliminate risk of contaminated data - like comparing one company's trial location/cohorts (and influenza strains) X with another's Y.
Obviously the number of trial subjects would need to be greater, but the net could be cast wider and it is then really all about consistency in comparisons.
Obviously this would only work for common diseases and trials all after similar outcomes e.g. Influenza treatments...
...perhaps easier said than done, but...
