Roosters v Cowboys, page-21

The point about these passes is that the Roosters (far more than any other team I have seen) push many per game that are right on the limit (it really gives their attacking play the max possible momemtum and puts the defensive team under more pressure) - many from the ruck are flat and short and some would clearly be called back if they were of the same trajectory but longer passes - very often, these are the passes that are either part of the build-up to, or are in the same play where they score tries.

Maybe the Roosters know that they have exposed a limitation in the game where a flat-forward pass in a movement that leads to a try cannot be ruled on by the video ref. So the pressure is squarely on the ref to make a running call (because the touchie is typically going to be too shy, particularly during a semi-final or final to call a flat-forward pass forward).

Maybe the Roosters coaching staff are simply too smart by pushing these tactics. The NRL could solve this problem from this week forward by allowing the Video Ref to rule on the passes in the play of a try, or even with a whisper into the ref's ear during a game.

It would be nice for a game to be won clearly within the rules as opposed to on question marks.
