any answers to a dumb question? why would the sub underwriters consider short selling to help get themselves out of their predicament? After such a heavy fall, shorting would be riskier than normal, and, how does it help you when your commited to underwriting stock at 48c. Is there some cunning mechanism that works here? am i missing something blindingly obvious?
