Agree with Zipperlip , 10 stocks is " safe " , but dilutionary .... better to have fewer stocks , but watch them much closely ...
... my greatest failing is impatience ... I'm legendery at selling stocks just months before they finally take off 10 or 20 fold ( Greencross / LNG spring to painful mind ! )
So I reckon you place your bet , and don't sell it within 12 months ... especially if it falls 50 % or so from your initial stake ... hold , and even buy more , if the story remains intact ...
... 2-3 years is my timeframe to see if a situation pans out profitably .... beyond that , you're better to seek something new ... in my opinion ...
