Yes they occur naturally. Just saying for an aquaculture operation it is far from optimal. Feed is **** expensive. you want feed in to = weight gained. Generally fish can adapt given time but salinity at those levels is too high for optimal growth conditions IMO.
*I understand the less boats, less staff etc "more streamlined' is the usual saying, but Clean Seas still own the lease at Fitz Bay, hence my remark about starting it back up.
They probably will start farming there again if and when they have enough bio mass in the sea. It is a a slightly risky strategy to have all cages at on site, storms, disease, diatom algae blooms, seals, etc could kill the whole lot

From what I hear trying to find well skilled staff in or willing to live in Whyalla is very difficult. Aquaculture operations are complex you need many skills such as Divers, Deck hands, skippers, hatchery technicians, growout managers, feed managers, fish health managers, operational managers, net menders, cage builders etc. All are skilled positions and require significant knowledge for a farm to be successful.
*There is a rumour of another (non-CSS) Kingfish farm starting up and Fitz Bay has been the suggested location. Yeah... take that with a pinch of salt (pun intended).

There are many examples of overzealous businessmen with money to burn losing it all on aquaculture operations. Aquaculture is actually very difficult and very high risk. Have you ever tried to keep a goldfish alive?

Louth bay abalone spent ~ $20 million on an onshore abalone facility to discover they bay was too warm and that abalone couldn't be grown.
