As a trading opportunity, once this nasty inquiry is finished, then AWB will definitely recover somewhat. Even if they lose the single desk, they are the company with all the contacts overseas for selling wheat. They definitely have the experience, even if they are a bunch of crooks. Howard's govt aren't going to leave our wheat farmers stranded, the govt have already PUBLICLY committed that the new arrangement ensures that Australian wheat growers are supported by a strong protectionist policy, whatever that may be, in response to US growers being assisted by their govt's subsidies. Bill Heffernan (the govt's senate head kicker) has suggested that the govt will still maintain a strong response to protect our farmers, and he always talks with the tacit approval of John Howard (the two are good friends). This gets me thinking that as a trade, AWB will make a nice long as it heads at least back up to the $4 region once this inquiry gets completed.
