I would suggest that US investors are the marginal buyers/sellers, and in the past they have been quite simplistic in their approach to offshore investments: if they're negative about a particular sector or sub-sector in the US, they apply the same sentiment to the rest of the world, regardless of nuances like currency differentials. They will dust off the reports on Aussie gold counters once they have conviction re US$ gold swinging higher. Frustrating for Aussie-based investors...
