January exports -7%, imports +2%. Deficit way higher than expected
CANBERRA (Dow Jones)--Australia's seasonally adjusted balance on trade in goods and services widened to a deficit of A$2.69 billion in January from a deficit of A$1.15 billion in December, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said Friday.
The figure is higher than analysts' expectations of a deficit of A$1.35 billion.
Australia recorded a deficit of A$2.29 billion in the year-earlier period.
