There is nothing Aussie about the modern sausage roll it's made from rice, flour, maize, hydrolysed vegetable protein, potato and tapioca starch, and rusk (wheat). A little water is required, but it can be a major ingredient in the mass-produced kind, used to bind the meat and fillers and add bulk to the sausages
also a variety of ingredients to add flavour and colour while keeping costs down. These include sugar, spray-dried wine, HVP preservative, yeast extract, natural roast beef flavour and smoke flavour, and sulphites, sulphur dioxide (220), sodium and potassium sulphites (221-225 and 228).
Let them have their Halal Certification on that one.
If your lucky you may find a local bakery that makes the way they used to be, same goes for Saveloy's although i find the Prima brand not bad at all
